[dt_gap height=”20″ /]Analysis of National Technical Director of the French Federation of Parachuting

Jean-Michel Poulet, National Technical Director of the FFP, attended the Championships of France Indoor Skydiving FlyZone in Lezignan-Corbieres.

“I appreciated the quality of the organization of this indoor championship. This is the opportunity to watch, in real time, this type of competition and to evaluate the level of competitors and teams. This allows me to talk with them and discuss about the competition.

I found that the organization was very good and that, technically, it met the requirements of a National Indoor Championship.

I believe in Indoor Skydiving, It’s not skydiving. It’s a separate discipline, although close to it. Indoor Skydiving can attract, like other sports, children from the age of 5, instead of waiting 15 years to skydive.

As French Federation we made efforts to professionalize Indoor Skydiving with the setting of standards and qualifications, over 100 qualifications were issued to date. A network of tunnels will cover the whole of France and new structures will come in Lille, Lyon, La Villette, in addition to the ones existing in Lezignan-Corbieres and Argenteuil. Young people can discover the wind tunnel flight without grasping the air out of an airplane and without fear for their parents.

The future of wind tunnel competitions is the creation of private clubs around these structures. New disciplines has appeared as the Dynamic 2Way or 4Way, as well as there are developments with music, like ice skating but in 3D, it’s called SkyDance. These disciplines are very visual and can attract a big audience. Indoor Skydiving may be the gateway for human flight to the Olympic Games. Specific Indoor Skydiving teams will certainly emerge without ever skydive, at least in competition. The increase of the level in the wind tunnel can be very fast.

FFP will, in future, support teams who will head the international competitions. Among those who have started in the wind tunnel, some may want to then try skydivie, if only to discover landscapes from a different angle. Skydiving, beyond the flight, demand to know variable wind conditions and the control of the canopy.

To comment about the championship, Team Artemis Espoir Saumur had a good competition with interesting scores, but there is still work to reach international top teams. The girls Wom’In get good scores for a team that did a very little training. Everybody can also note the very good performance of the junior team FlyZone in N1. ”
